Her powerful jaw revealed, her muscles tense, and for a split second, her pupils glow a surreal blue-green, transformed by the rush of emotion. Then, just as quickly, they fade back to black. Captured by Burkhard Ley in searing midday heat, this photograph was the result of patience and intuition. While other boats left, Burkhard stayed behind, quietly observing the resting female in 40°C shade. Then the moment erupted, a dominant male emerged from the undergrowth, and nature unfolded in perfect composition right before the lens.
